Frequently asked questions

What is restorative dentistry?

Restorative dentistry focuses on repairing teeth that have been damaged, or replacing teeth that have been lost. It involves a range of treatments aimed at improving the function and appearance of your teeth, and boosting your oral health.

When do I need restorative dentistry?

You may need restorative dentistry if you have cavities or tooth decay, broken teeth, missing teeth, worn-down teeth, or your teeth have been affected by gum disease.

Do restorative dental treatments hurt?

We use local anaesthetic for our restorative dental procedures, to minimise your discomfort and give a relatively painless experience. We use modern techniques and a careful approach to ensure you remain at ease. We also offer sedation if necessary.

How long do dental restorations typically last?

The length of time that your dental restoration lasts depends on the type of restorative treatment you had and how well you look after it. Composite fillings, dental crowns and bridges can last for many years with the proper care, and root canal treatment can give your natural tooth full function for over ten years.

What happens if I have a broken tooth?

If you have a broken tooth, please contact us as soon as you can. We can help with our wide range of restorative treatments to repair damage, improve function and enhance the appearance of your tooth.

What are the different types of dental restorations available?

At Shine Dental, we use white composite fillings for a natural-looking repair. We can also fill larger areas of damage to your tooth with an inlay, or restore the outer part of a tooth with an onlay.
